Jane's life was anything but normal, beginning with her birth, when she was cut from her dead mother's womb by a village elder, as her father assisted, at the tail end of a CIA mission in Russia during the early 1960s. On return to the States, the President ordered Jane's father, John "Howser" Howard, to place Jane in foster care until the age of seven, at which time she was then enrolled in Howser's secret paramilitary school, Orion, in Pretoria, South Africa.
