On August 28th 1918, the Honourable Violet Douglas Pennant was summarily dismissed from her post as Commandant of the Women's Royal Air Force after 14 weeks in post. Instant dismissal was only used in cases of gross misconduct. What had she done? She demanded answers. Read her story in "The Rise and Fall of Violet Douglas Pennant" by Susan Leona Fisher, a biography, very accessible, written in the style of historical fiction.
