I lied for no reason other than to perpetuate an image of perfection I'd managed to manufacture at the cost of my soul. I was a cardboard cutout, shaped in the likeness of those I one day intended to replace. Subconsciously, I hated the person I'd become, but it's hard to break a habit without an incentive.
