Sam Waters finds himself fighting for survival after the first of seven apocalyptic events are unleashed upon the earth. Although initially concerned only about self-preservation, Sam develops relationships with his neighbors and learns concern for them. In the process, he meets Walt Brooks, an unusual old man struggling to maintain contact with his three grown sons. Estranged from his father, and working for the United States Geological Survey, Chase Brooks is stationed in Yellowstone National Park. He, his family, and a few friends attempt to escape and survive as the Yellowstone caldera transforms into an erupting volcano. Working for the secret service, Matt Brooks provides security for the vice president. After the vice president sequesters himself, his family, and top aids into a bunker for safety, he develops psychotic behavior and threatens the lives of everyone inside. Brock Brooks lives on the west coast when earthquakes and a tsunami turn his world upside down. In the midst of horrific catastrophic events, he tries to rekindle a relationship with his ex-wife and son. By banding together with his neighbors, Sam struggles to survive not only the elements, but also attacks from a gang of sadistic men. With help from his friend and neighbor, Bill Hanson, Sam learns to trust in, and prepare for apocalyptic events foretold in scripture. Together they try to unravel the mysteries of the Bible leading up to the battle of Armageddon.
