Child and adolescent suicidality remain a primary global concern. Completed suicide is one of the leading causes of adolescent mortality in the United States. The pathways to suicidality are complex and multiform. One thing is certain. For better or worse, the personality of every human being emerges from a primary attachment relationship, usually in the context of a family. Attachment and the quality of family relationships are key factors modulating the trajectory of development toward or away from optimal adaptation, mental disorder, disease, and suicidality.
