In late 2016 Dr Linet Amalie, a mental health practitioner working in a large hospital entered the emergency department as a patient to undergo a minor surgical procedure following a spider bite. What resulted from this, changed her life forever. ... I told the doctor that I had major allergic reactions especially anaphylaxis to peanuts and bee stings. The doctor joked with me that he wouldn't be giving me bee stings or peanuts and proceeded to give me the anaesthetic. I told him to get the intubation kit ready as I knew 'something wasn't quite right'. I could feel my throat start to constrict, my larynx and lower respiratory tract became tight, I began to suffocate and choke, then the full dose of ketamine was given to me via the intravenous infusion, my airway closed over and I stopped breathing leading to respiratory and eventually cardiac arrest. That was the last thing I remembered before I died.... This journey to the 'other side' that Linet experienced whilst on life support for days following her cardiac arrest enabled her to understand what happens when we die. She was successfully resuscitated and has now penned her experience to reassure others that once life is extinct, your Soul lives on.
