My drinking and substance misuse problem lasted 16 long years. I´ve served prison sentences, been admitted to hospitals, slept rough in empty buildings, burgled properties, deceived and lied to many... I would drink and use drugs whenever I felt happy or sad to shut my inner pain out, for a while, and forget my failings. Everything was a reason to inject myself or get smashed. Help came when I finally admitted that I had a drinking and substance misuse problem and needed help. When I understood that the pain I´d have to undergo to turn my life around wouldn't be greater than the one I was already experiencing, I decided to take the plunge and seek help for a better life...
