Rupert Robinson is not your average Aussie bachelor and neither is his story. His half lunatic carefree lifestyle as a self employed retriever of lost souls, dogs and illegal loot launches into high octane overdrive shortly after the massive police sergeant Tim Weston persuades him to find the missing Gunga Din Pickering, his tangle footed and hapless Constable. Instant success galvanizes the top cop in the state to approach Rupert with an offer he'd like to refuse; a negotiation ensues with a win win result except for the advent of Toni Hargreaves, an absolute horror of a woman who instantly becomes his nemesis. In the background, life goes on as usual; he still engages in good fun bar room brawls and dances on the hotel bar with 'the Swamp' and Lucy of the Eyebrows and he partakes of much ale with Peter of the whiskers and his life partner Darryl de Gay. Meanwhile, as they say in serious literature, Rupert experiences an almost fatal attraction to Adelaide Rodina, the most gorgeous of women with the strange accent and manner of speech. She is not who he thinks she is. Is she a criminal or a victim; a murderer and a thief? An innocent and a refugee? Only time will tell. When Rupert finds that foreigners with evil intent have come hunting for Adelaide they go into escape and evasion mode with the result that an unexpected dark time visit sees Rupert accidentally shoot a cop - but that is the least of his problems. The situation escalates into a tragicomedy, but you'll need to buy a copy of Rupert's Blues to find out who survives and who doesn't. Oh, yes, Rupert learns about lightning and almost has a case of dirty washing.
