Joey Vogel, our son and brother, was a truly amazing person. He passed away too soon at the age of 31, but left a wonderful legacy of intelligence, warmth, and humor. Most evident were his kindness and good nature. He was creative and enjoyed writing poetry and producing artwork. He had a beautiful voice. In his youth he frequently sang in plays, and when he was a young adult he performed solos with a choir. As a social worker he worked with mentally ill individuals, displaying empathy and expertise. He was a friend to many, and shared his wonderful qualities. Most exceptional was his closeness to his family who loved him dearly and whom he loved in return. The poetry in this book reveals the admirable nature that Joey possessed. He displayed depth, sensitivity, and a vivid awareness of the variety of life's experiences.
