When Penny Ephram's first day at the Dorkansee Healing Institute ends badly, she refuses to quit. Penny develops a passion to learn how to be a proper lady and a better swordswoman. Her relationship with Jack Winder puts Penny in peril from a suspected Black Finger student. Penny is abducted just as Jack Winder completes his task in the country of Masukai prompting him to rush northward to rescue Penny.
