Know that this is not your typical parenting book.

First of all I didn't choose to write it! This book is a product of 3 years of my children (now adults) nagging me to write about how the heck I was able to parent them so brilliantly, given all our varying circumstances. They are both wildly successful and appreciate how I parented them so much, that they have asked me to write a guide on how I did it. This way, not only they can learn to mindfully parent their own kids, but others can learn to, as well. They truly believe that these parenting principles can make a dent in the universe. You know what? I believe they can, too.

Second of all, this book is raw, vulnerable and very personal. This book will not be your usual instructional guide. I will share with you my lowest of lows (as well as the high´s, don´t worry). I will share with you my stories, the hilarious ones, the embarrassing ones, and the ones that still give goosebumps. This book is parenthood in all of its shapes, sizes, and color-spectrums. It's real. I must admit that my parenting was completely based on trial and error, constant experimentation and iteration that lead me to discover new ways of thinking about parenthood. The three of us where guinea pigs on this area.

Thirdly, you´ll hear from my children, Paulina and Sebastian. They will be digging just as deep as I have, sharing their perspective on the raw, personal stories I have written about in this book. You will experience each story from my lens, then you will experience it from theirs. They will tell you all the vulnerable details of how they were feeling at the time, what they were thinking, and how they reacted to how I was parenting them. Then, they will reflect and write about that particular situation, and how it was handled, shaped them into the person that they are today.

Finally, this book breaks the rules. That's right. All those rules you hear about how perfect children are born from perfect circumstances, that a family needs to be ideally shaped, that raising kids as a single parent is an impossible task... You know the rules. In my family, we call those "brules", or bull-shit rules. You know what we do with brules? We break them. That's right, this book is a brule-breaker.
