Research has established that only 10% of startups succeed. A whopping 90% of those who start businesses will court failure. Which side of these statistics you will fall will be determined by how you do business. This book sheds light into how to succeed in business today while at the same helping you do a reality check on your business. If you have not already started a business, then you might be fortunate enough to know how and how not to before you embark. Many people in business are not really concerned about business; they are chasing money. That is why people are hopping from one business to another because they are following money. The author would like to caution the reader that this book might disappoint you if money is your first thought when you hear business. There is good news however, that all those who mean business will receive money; much more than they need. Money does not always mean business; do not put the cart before the horse. Entrepreneurs are made; they are self-made. This book will not perform some magic that will transform you into an overnight successful entrepreneur. Instead, it will incite and provoke you to perform your own magic that others will not crack. In technical terms, we call this a creative monopoly. This book is in the form of a manual for harnessing entrepreneurial skills, qualities, and habits. It is action oriented and very practical. I would recommend reading this book, not in prose form, but with a pen and paper so that you can note action points. Every chapter of this book presents to the reader an opportunity to reflect, discover, and decide to do something to improve their businesses. If you are yet to start a business, then every chapter is a worthy lesson to put you into the right shape for an entrepreneur. A successful entrepreneur is only one out of ten. There is a process you will need to go through to move yourself from the 90% crowd to the 10% self-chosen few. I call them the self-chosen few because these are people who have deliberately rescued themselves from the mentality of the masses in business and done the prerequisite extraordinary. Business is not the underdog of employment nor is it the fate of those who couldn't secure a meaningful career or those who did not prove themselves in the classroom. It is a career in its own right, more demanding than what people refer to as mainstream careers. It demands mental intelligence and purposeful execution. The 10% who succeed in business are 90% more creative than the 90% who fail. The 90% failure can be attributed first and foremost to the lack of creative thought leading many to be too quick to duplicate ideas. It is the result of 10% of creativity and 90% of duplication. Throughout this book, we will see how success in business is 90% what we do and 10% how the market responds to what we do.
