Leonardo was born in a small village as illegitimate son, outside of wedlock, to a wealthy notary and a young country girl. His mother Caterina tried repeatedly to blackmail his father in order to gather a little money to survive. Leo's father didn't take it too well, and finally settled the repeated attempts of Leo's mother paying her a little bit of money and taking Leo into his estate at the age of 5 and keeping the mother far away for the rest of Leo's lifeBeing illegitimate in a small village was one of those things which made you worth less than the pigs and cattle. Leo's father, incapable to show even a minimal affection for his first born son, just ordered him to the servant quarters, where young and lonely Leo had to cater for the animals and perform the typical tasks of a houseboy. Leo's cousins who lived in the same estate didn't shun any occasion to tease the lonely boy and remind him his less than humble origins.
