In the late 2030s, seventeen-year-old Echo Musashi has everything, and nothing. As an heir to the multi-billion-dollar Musashi technology fortune the world is at her fingertips, but as the world's first and only biologically-engineered human being she is feared, outcast, and distrusted. Harboring a strained relationship with her older sister, and the resentment of her school, Echo's only friend is a machine-intelligence named Brent.

When a rogue artificial intelligence system offers Echo a quid pro quo in exchange for the credit of creating a world-changing technology, Echo must rectify her mistake or risk human extinction. With the help of her friend Brent and a brilliant scientist involved in the creation of the rogue A. I., Echo must travel from the depths of the ocean to the heights of the stratosphere, while coming closer to the realization that in order to stop this extinction-level event, she may have to make the ultimate sacrifice.
