When it occurs to a gangster that there are no more great racehorses, he decides to take matters into his own hands and rectify the problem. He hires microbiology student Willie Toleson and a disgraced veterinarian to help with his scheme, but a series of mistakes by his loyal thug Tony throws a major wrench into the works. When the student's girlfriend is accidentally murdered and he is suspected, his father hires a defense attorney and his estranged-wife-turned-investigator to clear his name. But Willie has his own plans, and despite everyone's efforts to help him, he insists on keeping his secrets, not knowing how many people are working against him. When his experiments are stolen, involving even more people, the situation becomes explosive.
