Alternative energy is the use of energy resources other than fossil fuels. They are used majorly in four areas; transportation, air and water heating/cooling, rural energy and electricity generation. Some of the common types of alternate energy are solar power, wind power, geothermal energy and hydropower. Solar energy is produced using sun's heat and light. Wind energy is the use of wind to generate electric power. The energy generated and stored in earth is known as geothermal energy. Hydropower is the use of fast running water to produce electricity. These forms of alternative energy are used to limit carbon dioxide emissions, conserve water and reduce pollution.
