Today, the actual purpose of going to church has become lost. A large portion of people have stopped attending service because of boredom, or believing religion is irrelevant in their current life, and/or feeling that the church is not a part of their relationship with God. Likewise, there are even more people who attend only because they feel they are obligated to. The effect of entering the church's doors has long since vanished from the life of many. The New Testament church was unscripted. It was full of life and participation. The services were new and ground breaking, and the effect they had on people was life changing. Now though, the church services most people attend lack the strength and impact that the former once held. They are scripted, predictable and highly-polished, a far different thing than what once was considered such a life-changing experience. This book compares the early church described in the Acts of the Apostles with the church that we see in America today. It explains why the early church was so powerful and life-changing, and how that effect has been lost over the course of church history.
