Social science is an academic discipline that is concerned with the study of the society and the different associations and relationships among individuals in a society. It is a vast subject with numerous sub-domains such as archaeology, anthropology, history, human geography, political science and sociology, among many others. Research in social science is conducted by employing a range of methods for analyzing social phenomena, such as census survey data and in-depth analysis of social experiences of a single subject, investigation of historical documents, etc. Research methods can be divided into the two categories of quantitative designs and qualitative designs that approach social phenomena from the opposing spectrums of quantifiable evidence and statistical analyses, and participant communication and direct observation respectively.
