Jack London

Jerry of the Islands Jack London

Jerry of the Islands is Jack London's story of South Sea adventure told through the eyes of a loyal and intelligent dog. Jerry is a six-month old Irish Terrier. He has lived all his life with his mother and father on a plantation in the Solomon Islands. His life is simple and enjoyable and safe. When his beloved Mister Higgins suddenly takes him away on a boat and gives him to Captain Van Horn, however, his world is turned upside down. Will Jerry be able to survive his new life on the high seas? With undeniably racist overtones, mirroring the colonial sentiments of the era, London creates a vivid picture of life in early-20th-century Melanesia.
