Two volumes reprinted in one, giving a concise exposition of the case for spiritualism, by Arthur Conan Doyle, occasioned by his great interest and belief in spiritualism. Conan Doyle, best known as the originator of Sherlock Holmes, attempts to show the relationship between the revelations of spiritualism and the tenets of conventional religion.

Doyle, a leading examiner of the psychic world, in The Vital Message reacts to the horrors and realities of modern war with this manifesto proposing a "renewed", global connection with the spirit realm and with this philosophy an applauding of the "Spiritualist Movement" that had enjoyed renewed interest at the turn of the previous century.

In the preface to The Vital Message, his second book on spiritualism, Doyle says: ?In The New Revelation the first dawn of the coming change has been described. In The Vital Message the sun has risen higher, and one sees more clearly and broadly what our new relations with the Unseen may be.? The Vital Message contains his early thoughts on spirit photography.
