However, it was only decades ago that asylums housed lost souls that, perhaps not crazy upon entry, were certainly broken down into the depths of insanity by the time they departed. Photos capture that which a tortured mind can only see, and short stories and poetry reveal the ugly truth behind why these institutions were eventually shut down without recourse.
