More Sun Than Shadow: For the reader, poetry is a forgiving art, because it is possible to read an isolated poem, to read one poem again and again, to read a book of poems through to the end, or to leave that book open beside your chair to enjoy as if it were cookies-nibbling on them one or two at a time. I like to read poems that I understand, so when writing I try to choose words that lean toward the personal, recognize reality, and have a pleasing cadence, but I can't write a poem without an idea sloshing around in my mind for a while. My life has been more sun than shadow, so I celebrate it, and write poetry about all of it, including the shadows. This poetry book in four parts is the sum of it for a lot of years. I - REFLECTION, where a thought process is the first requirement, II - OFF THE TOP, where the silly stuff sits, III - IT'S ALL ABOUT ME, where the theme is self-indulgence, and IV - SHADOW, where the dark stuff and the sad stuff live.
