While the primary characters in the book are fictitious, I based their lives and motivations upon the lives of actual people. The book features a number of real people from the special operations community, portraying themselves and their accomplishments. The feats described by the fictitious USS Great White came out of the actual patrol logs of several WWII era submarine patrols.
