After returning to Canada she immerses herself in the Islamic faith for the next seven years; Sonja experiences spiritual phenomena which leads her to more questions. After freeing herself from the confines of a strict religious life, she steps away into a life of over indulgence but her faith continues to burn deep within her soul. In 2010, at fifty three, Sonja's life changes dramatically when she separates from her common law husband of fourteen years. The change shifts her to seek once again more meaning in her life. The great learning Sonja travels through transforms her from within. She moves from despair to the connections of all life and understanding of herself.
