A Prisoner of My Mind C Hazelwood

This is the story of one man's terrifying final years, when he is bewildered and confused during the stages of dementia, each one more severe than the previous. He experiences moments of anger, self pity and a fear of death before plunging into unknown periods of darkness in which he is fully submerged. As the disease takes a strangling grip over his body as well as his cognitive thoughts, he becomes unable to communicate, and completely reliant on others. He is embarrassed by losing control of his bowels and bladder only to be manhandled by underpaid carers and by a few not so caring carers who see him as a commodity rather than a human being. This once proud member of society can only attempt to analyse his slow agonising journey and why he has been struck down when the dusk of his life should be one of enjoyment.
