Anne Knight's early poems give us a glimpse of the 1939-1945 war through the eyes of a young girl. The war is always there, in the background, but life is dominated by the practicalities of living in wartime Britain. Practical things - such as food - dominate. And throughout there is a strong sense of family. But most of all this is a child's tale from a child's world. A child learning to swallow her disappointments and to take death in her stride.
