Hands Across Two Cultures
Patricia Naqvi
The American author, with her Pakistani husband, moves to Peshawar, Pakistan in the 70's where she faces challenging cultural differences. Four months after she arrives, war breaks out with India. Experiencing war from a trench in her garden is life-changing. For the next four years with the support of her loving Pakistani family, she adapts to her new life. Laughter and occasional frustration also play a role. After returning to the States, she makes subsequent return visits to Pakistan. In the 80's she describes the impact of the Soviet Occupation of neighboring Afghanistan. On her last visit in 2015, she witnesses the daily threat from the Taliban insurgency, but also the resiliency of the Pakistani people. This is a portrait of two very different cultures coming together in harmony.
