A festive wedding, a new beginning gone awry, and the death of a beloved World War II veteran... Betty Hitchens has her hands full with her first catering gig. Though her nerves are frayed from trying to make everything perfect for the young couple getting married, things quickly go from joyously chaotic to sad and dramatic when she receives word that one of her favorite customers has died. While she's paying her respects, Betty learns that the daughters of the deceased don't believe their father died of natural causes as reported. They ask Betty to take a look into the events surrounding his death and give them her opinion on what really transpired. The Yellow Rose baker agrees, since she's in need of distraction. A friend has encouraged her to start going out more, but she quickly learns that the dating scene for women in small-town Texas falls somewhere in between limited and downright grim.
