Modern Spain meets its dark past when Natalia's friend Henry asks her to help him track down a missing document that will save his inheritance. Natalia has just been fired from the company she has worked at for many years. She takes it in her stride; she has suffered far worse in her life. She travels to the house of Henry's grandmother Valentina in a small Spanish coastal town. Her search unveils secrets and mysteries buried by the Spanish Civil War and following Second World War, and she becomes absorbed in the tragic story that she uncovers.
