Now Jesus presented Himself to the disciples on the road to Emmaus. Their hearts were broken, they thought He was the One, but now they had seen him suspended from the cross, dead. Yet a stranger drew close beside them and preached from Genesis to Revelation and their hearts burned within them. When he seems to be continuing his journey and their company with Him would come to a halt, they invited him to join them. As they sat to eat, he opened his hands to bless the food as he so customarily did, and they beheld the nail prints in his hands. They realized it was Jesus Himself. Jesus will present Himself to us every day if we would but submit ourselves to close fellowship with Him. If I try to "obey a distant Christ, His commands will have no power to keep me obedient, Christ longs to reveal Himself, but He cannot on account of our unbelief. I have failed.
