I have worked in several healthcare systems in medicine for 37 years, and in psychiatry since I started my residency in 1986, and over the past 25 years I have seen a gradual deterioration in the connection between providers and patients/clients. This deterioration is not specific to any one provider or system, but has occurred as a general change in attitude and values over most of healthcare. I've tried to avoid quoting a lot of statistics, research citations, and references, but have focused on the things you don't see when you walk into a providers office, what you will be dealing with, and what you can do to change your visit.
