Nik is a sceptic and doesn't believe in happily ever after, fairy-tale endings or truly never ending happiness. She was abandoned emotionally by her mother and keeps herself well-guarded relying only on what she knows best. She doesn't take handouts and definitely won't be anyone's charity case. When she finds herself homeless and without anywhere to turn she does the only thing she can: pretend it didn't happen. There were those moments in life - the ones where everything felt aligned or perfect or perfectly aligned - they were the sighs of relief or the diamonds in the rough or a royal flush. They were the small moments of unforeseen beauty ... the ones that it took being at the right place at the right time. Clay Declan loved those moments. For him, most of the time - the bright white moments of clarity, precision and alignment occurred in the OR - where for the most part, he was presented with a cluster known facts and was challenged to find the unknown and repair or remove it. He counted on known facts; they were what he based his instincts on - and he lived by his instincts. Clay Declan trusted his instincts. And so, he lived by those moments of clarity housed deep within the trenches of the OR where he would trust his instincts to the bitter end. What happens when a woman who has closed herself off from everyone and a man too afraid to risk his heart finally meet?
