Spiritual gifts remain available as a part of God's plan for His church and are increasingly being manifested within fellowships and believers around the world. The purpose of all the gifts is to edify the church, and their distribution within the body is completely dependent upon the discretion of the Holy Spirit. The Spirit of God is absolutely sovereign and gives both the gifts and the faith to use them to whomever He pleases for the edification and comfort of His body. Each spiritual gift has its place within the church environment and each serves a role in building others. Gifts are not for a few but for all and every believer has abilities which the Holy Spirit has given and can use to strengthen others. God gives these gifts to us so that His glory might be displayed. The gifts are the most fundamental way in which ministry occurs within the present day church. These gifts belong to the church and are manifested through individuals as the Spirit wills, not as man wills. Spiritual gifts cannot be earned or bought. The Holy Spirit purely and graciously gives them to us for His clearly defined purposes. They are to be used to serve the body of Christ. The church cannot function effectively without them.
