To keep everyone happy especially the Spanish, when the young prince became king he announced that he was going to marry his brothers former wife Catherine. Henry VIII was 18 years old when he married Catherine of Aragon on the 11 June 1509 and wasted no time informing everyone that it was his father's dying wish for him to marry Catherine, whether or not this was true but it certainly was convenient at the time.
