With the prospect of a summer break in an Orange County vacation house overlooking the Pacific Ocean, Glenn Power, a 26 year old grad student, was expecting dreams to come true that year. Instead, that was the summer that his deepest fears became a living reality. After coming down with inexplicable symptoms that only got worse with every passing week, Glenn went on to seek medical help wherever he could. Some of the best doctors in the state, however, had no answers for him. All the while, the trauma from his dad's suicide had resurfaced, turning his dream summer into nothing short of nightmare. The Shadow and the Sunshine is a story of devastating chronic illness, fear, and doubt, impossibly mingling with healing, love, and trust. It is one person's story of finding God while passing through the valley of the shadow. But it also is, in a way, the story we all live. If we choose to look to our Maker with trusting eyes, we will see the day when the light of God eclipses the darkness of this age forever.
