Publisher Marketing: At the end of The History of God, Karen Armstrong postulates that Monotheism can no longer serve the spiritual needs of the future world, but leaves unaddressed the question of a practical replacement. In The Cybernetic Indian: A Case for Secular Morality, David Stanley proposes that we become the architects of our own destiny. Stanley challenges humanity to free itself of the Iron Triangle of Corporations, Religions and Government. He calls them The CRG Force, a trilateral dictatorship that descends upon us soon after birth, from which we must be liberated if we are to transcend the artificial limits imposed on the soul of Man by the fascist mind-set. We will become Cybernetic Indians as modern humans reconnect with their primitive selves and regain their cosmic bearings. Secular morality and common sense can then replace all corporate, religious and governmental mandates as we unite in our common humanity and continue the insatiable pursuit of knowledge. And what is the insatiable pursuit of knowledge but, in the words of Stephan Hawking, "to know the mind of God?" Citing the words of cultural anthropologist, Ernest Becker, from The Denial of Death, "Man seeks immortality, not as man, but as God," Stanley asserts: "Mankind's destiny is God's definition."
