Approximately 50% of the story and associated dialogue is shared by both books, while the remainder of the plot concentrates on what is happening in the individual characters' lives, their pasts and the secrets they carry with them. By reading both books, readers can enjoy the dramatic irony as the story unfolds; anticipating what will happen next and be aware of the lies being told before the players are themselves. Female versus male psychology is explored over the two books, as the characters react differently to the same situation, and we see how misunderstandings can occur as they interpret their circumstances from their respective mind-sets. Each book is written is a very different voice. Lizzy's book describes how she feels, and explores her insecurities and romantic ideals, while Edward thinks things through and is driven by his sexual appetite, his desires and ambitions. I believe my characters have depth; they represent real, multifaceted people with complex histories, anxieties, flaws and fears. Yes, this is a tale of romance that includes very explicit and erotic sex scenes, but the books also explore challenging subjects such as adultery, violence, grief, gay marriage, friendship and betrayal.
