Publisher Marketing: ALL PROCEEDS GO TO THE AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY. Drs. Stefano Cazzanti (Psy. D.) and Ryan W. Schroeder (Psy. D., LP, ABPP Cn) examine the relationship between the Index of Learning Styles (ILS), visual-verbal learning preference domains, and five valid neuropsychological instruments that measure visual and verbal cognitive processes. These instruments are the California Verbal Learning Test-II (CVLT-II), the Logical Memory, the Rey Complex Figure Test (RCFT), the Brief Visuospatial Memory Test-Revised (BVMT-R), and the Wechsler Abbreviated Scale of Intelligence-II (WASI-II). The authors discuss the results in the context of statistical and practical significance (i.e., effect size); potential explanations for the pattern of correlations observed are set forth. The data reported is easily readable and interpretable through APA style tables and descriptions. Strengths and limitations of the study are included as are guidelines for future research with specific populations. The goal of the study was to examine whether criterion-related validity could be established between the ILS and the neuropsychological measures. This book may be for you if: 1) you have a general interest in instructional psychology 2) you are curious as to whether there is positive correlation between preferring to learn information by hearing it verbally or seeing it visually presented and actual verbal versus visual performance on tests that objectively measure those learning domains 3) you have an interest in learning style preferences and the "instructional hypothesis" 4) you are discerning about neuropsychological assessments that quantify visual and verbal cognitive processes 5) you are interested in discourse on both statistical and practical (real-life) significance 6) you would like an opinion on previous literature in the field 7) you would like to familiarize yourself with other self-administered learning style questionnaires in addition to the Index of Learning Styles 8) you are interested in construct validity associated with testing instruments
