This book tells the tale of a boy born into a middle-class rural family in British colonial Ceylon (now Sri Lanka). A vivid story related through the experiences of cultural upbringing, tradition, lifestyle changes and haunting childhood memories of the 1950s and 1960s. The book tells all about a boy born to a middle-class rural family in the British colonial Ceylon. Living in an era of strict cultural taboos and ancient practices render his young life utterly intricate. Also faces a generation full of superstition, astrology, exorcism, séance and spiritualism practically crushing him beyond anybody?s belief. Torn from the bosom of his family he departs his cozy village-home to faraway school to suffer under sadistic teachers. In a miserable boardinghouse he struggles with nasty bullyboys and battling along with constant homesickness. The family tragedies worsen his misery drowning him in grief and then confusion.
