In destiny, there is something beyond memory, beyond identity, beyond what we lose and suffer in this world--it is the transcendent ground of our being. Fairies of Dragon Fire is such a story of loss--loss as experienced through death, trauma and madness--and the redemptive power of connecting to our destiny. Through the purity and guidance of a winsome flower fairy named Pinky, Thom Elder, reeling from the death of his wife, Caitlin, receives the blessing of a glimpse into the Afterlife. Discovering that Caitlin was part fairy, that she possessed fairy blood, he believes the enchantment of the fairy world is fated to be his three-year-old daughter's--Annie's--heritage. And although the fairy realm is magical and wondrous, he comes to witness that it is not immune to tragedy, leaving him feeling betrayed, leading him down the path of madness. With references to Arthurian characters (namely, in the persons of Eileen and Scott McIntosh) and themes, Fairies of Dragon Fire depicts that in the end--at the end of madness in which Thom is almost blinded to his soul--there can be a heart-centered revelation of our ultimate destiny, transcending all that has been lost, beyond our broken lives.
