In Challenges, newly promoted Captain Random Arthur Hause, a former history teacher/baseball coach, finds himself at the center of the explosion as events on Echo World spin out of control. He and his new partner, Miss Eileen Sands find themselves the leaders of the rebellious Off-world forces in a fight for independence. Random and Eileen soon discover that dancing, as a marionette is preferable to dying. As Random and Eileen engage, along with the rest of the human community, in another unwanted war, they add a new collection of friends, including Colonel Richard Schoenfeldt and Andrew ?Ike? Eicherman. Through the help of Schoenfeldt and Eicherman, Random and Eileen Random and Eileen are able to find the manpower and resources to defend their newly created Savannah Protectorate. The price for failure is obvious. What isn?t so obvious is; What are they going to do if they succeed? M. A.
