The poems within are intelligent, witty, poignant, morbid, and occasionally worth reading. His form is mostly free verse with sight-rhyme and alliteration, as Ian claims to be terrible at metered poetry...except limericks, but that's a different book to write. Ian McLeod is heavily influenced by the Modernists, but with enough kick to keep a contemporary reader amused, if not entertained.
