At the beginning of the Spring semester (2013), students in Dr. Lo Faber?s World-Civ. class at Loyola University New Orleans were charged with researching and authoring their own history textbooks. This unique approach gave students the opportunity to contribute their own narrative(s) to history, which left many of us sifting through mounds of documents, myths, photos, and all of the lovely things available to professional researchers, in an effort to facilitate a new kind of excitement in the field of historical research. Faber started by giving us 20 must know dates; that is, dates that must be incorporated in our narrative(s) (all are included in this lovely book), and a loose set of instructions regarding construction: A streaming narrative, a timeline, a combination of both, or even a sardonically written essay; it was wide open! Whatever it took to mobilize students and to get them interested in history was what was important. Readers beware! This book is the end result!
