If there is a discernible theme in this collection, then it's probably that of irreverence emanating from what began as wide eyed life observation. Irreverence reflected not only in stories about the indifferent waywardness of youth, but also, as can be seen in the penultimate poem, Father O'Really, the irreverence of behaviour incongruent with one's position in life.
