Lily Mitchell is ordinary. Or so she thinks. In a futuristic, famished world governed by the Mainframe, a militaristic government, Lily struggles to finish school and support her dying mother. She meets Wes, a fellow student pulled into a Mainframe job to avoid being drafted into a war. Together, they discover an accident, the tragic effects of chemical testing that turned a group of scientists into unearthly creatures. Because of Lily's inadvertent connection to the disaster, she becomes a target for the Mainframe. She and Wes flee, only to find their worst fears waiting for them.
