The "Audits and Compliance" Book provides you with an overview of the U. S. When the United States enacted the Customs Modernization Act in 1993, it transferred responsibility for classifying and entering correct value of goods from U. S. Customs to the importer of record. Now companies must be sure to properly classify all their imported goods, accurately report their value, and determine and pay the appropriate duties and fees. Failure to comply with the regulations can result in severe penalties to the importer. In addition, Customs requires importers to create a set of standard operating procedures for the importation of their goods into the United States. To ensure these procedures are being followed and producing accurate results, Customs periodically audits these procedures to ensure compliance with import regulations.
