Jesse wants to know all about his grandfather's life for he knows there is a tremendous story to be told. He knows Eric's father was an enigma but not why he deserved the family's scorn. He knows Eric's childhood was riddled with accidents and diseases. What he doesn't know is why Eric's love for Sarah was forbidden, how that obstacle was overcome and why the bond between Eric and Sarah was so strong that her death did not seem to sever their relationship. The family knew that Eric believed he and Sarah still communicated daily long after their separation; the family accepted Eric's belief suspecting there was an element present that they did not understand. Eric spun the tales that Jesse had never known of each family member causing him to fall more in love with his family and elevated his respect for each one of them. The greatest gift he received from his grandfather was the awareness that he must learn to keep an open mind on all subjects and question his convictions in greater detail.
