Why did six-year-old Bonnie Garvin keep running away? We don't find out till she is sixteen and in the mean time her beloved grandfather dies, she and her loving but negatively minded father suffer near-alienation and her understanding mother is perplexed. Finally her problem is resolved but opens up a new course for her and her family's lives as she and circumstances come to a happy climax in the sealing of a doubly satisfying relationship with someone she's loved all along.
