Gabriel Razzetti, the protagonist, stands as a metaphor for a large number of men who, due to their primal fear of emasculation, either repress their homosexuality and live an outward lie or live a double life - one in the closet and one for public approval. Until Gabe is willing to see both the masculinity and the divinity that enlivens his gayness, he is hopelessly trapped in an identity that others sought to mercilessly mold. Once, however, he begins to question the fear-ridden beliefs that were indoctrinated into his psyche, he learns to ultimately discern the false prophets (those who claim that God hates gay people) from the truly spiritual people among us (those who live the truth that God dwells within the core of every living being - gay, straight and everything in between).
