This book contains three selections. Following the epic poem, Einstein?s Lament, is a chapter from my science fiction novel Time Currents, Area 51?about a Y2K accident that accidentally transports the entire base back to 1900. The final selection is another epic poem, ?Voyage of the Opal??the adventures of a twinned photon, a unit of consciousness, coursing through spacetime.

The first selection, Einstein?s Lament, is the centerpiece. What was he lamenting? First and foremost, the most maddening dilemma of his life, whether he, a committed pacifist, should allow himself to sanction ? and encourage ? President Roosevelt to develop the atom bomb lest Hitler?s scientists develop it first, or, whether, true to his pacifist convictions, he should refuse to get involved. This is the man who, oxymoronically, said he would fight for peace.

The second selection takes place at Area 51, Nevada. Time travel experiments are being secretly conducted. At midnight, December 31, 1999, a cataclysmic Y2K event, a power failure, activates the time machines, creating a huge collapsing energy field, transporting everything and everybody at the base within a five mile spherical radius back to 1900, including an airliner flying above. At the precise moment of the disruption, 20 year old Einstein?s mind is set into furious motion.

The third selection is Voyage of the Opal, another physics poem, the adventures of a twinned photon, which courses through Einstein?s universe, through galaxies and singularities, and, finding its voice, teaches us about relativity, the meaning of space-time, quantum entanglement, infinite velocity and other unsolved mysteries.
